Would I be more at risk to Skin Cancer if I go tanning? I have lots of moles ..well and freckles too..But I have a larger mole on my chest and one on the side of my head..Would I be more at risk for cancer than the average person, if I go tanning( salon tanning)
Is it bad to tan if you have lots of moles?
Just keep an eye for any changes in your skin and your moles... If you see something unusual then stop tanning and talk to a doctor
Reply:It is bad to tan in general...moles or not...you are still getting UV rays on your skin. Any tan is a bad tan.
Reply:No. Just worry when you see one start to change.
Reply:yes, there is no such thing as a "healthy tan". all tanning sdoes is kill skin cells and cause wrinkles. and in your condition, i wouldnt even attempt becuz of all your moles.
Reply:Do you have a family history of skin cancer? Tanning in general puts you at higher risk of skin cancer and it's harder to check your spots when you have a lot of them. There can be an eight-time greater risk of skin cancer with tanning beds than with solar tanning...I'd stay away if I were you. Try the self-tanning products.

I am fair skinned with dark hair and light eyes. That puts me in the highest risk category, so I think that tanning is bad for you no matter what. You should get your moles checked by a dermatologist.
Reply:Acutally, a mole has more melanin than your regular (im suggesting your white, so) white skin so its less in danger. However, tanning, if used excessively, will cause skin cancer (or maybe just a certain cancer). Usually dark skinned people, such as arabs or blacks do not need to worry because they carry more melanin in their skin. Melanin is a skin cell that block damage from uv lights.
Reply:Yes, Yes, and Yes, Get the moles checked at least once a year and stay away from tanning salons, We are trying to get them banned in Australia. A young girl who has just died started the process to get them banned
