I have a mole on the neck of my skin. Could it really cause problems like cancer?

I have had a mole at the back of my neck since birth, however recently it seems to be itching more and has once of twice bleeded and weeped. I have booked an appointment with the doc to get it checked out, yet the have a long wait, as the local surgery is poor on giving out near-dates...

...can the mole really cause problems like cancer, after all, i fear the worse as it is positioned on my neck and collar bone spine part

I have a mole on the neck of my skin. Could it really cause problems like cancer?
Changes in moles, even the ones we have had sicnce birth can become cancerous. Changes in the size, shape, texture, color, as well as bleeding are not healthy mole signs. It is always best to have it removed and biopsied to find out if it is cancerous or not. It is not worth keeping and then worrying about it.
Reply:yes it can my sister had one removed i would have just done it myself with a knife you ever seen people with those dangling ones that looked easy to cut off ewwwwww id just cut it off myself really that all the dr did for my sister she said it hurt . but its gone
Reply:if it looks dodgy they will just cut it off, dont worry i had an itchy one but there was nothing with it! ull be fine!
Reply:I think if you had it since birth then it will be benign (harmless)

I think it is the case that skin cancer can cause moles but moles can not cause skin cancer.

But I would encourage you to ask your doctor.
Reply:If the mole becomes large or turns a funny colour, then yes it could become cancerous as my mum has had two removed recently. If you scratch it and make it bleed, then it's most likely that you've just irritated it.

Oh and moles can cause skin cancer, like I said, my mother has recently undergone 2 ops for removing moles and is having chemotherapy.
Reply:You are doing the best thing you can by going to see the doctor. Now you must try to stop worrying. I had a similar mole from birth on my neck and it was my collar irritating it that made it itch. The doctor removed it very easily and every thing turned out OK. I hope that you are as lucky.
Reply:be patient and wait in the queue for the doctor
Reply:Moles do not cause cancer or turn into cancer.

What happens is that skin cancer often looks like a mole.

.
Reply:got one on my back

had it more years than i like to think about

no trouble same as yours i bet
Reply:i have just been to doc's about my mole on my back. same as you had it for years. got booked in to hospital and it was fine. moles should not bother you, should be brown or black not both and smooth surface. mine had turned nasty but was not cancer. your doc's should prioritise you, ring them up and demand to be seen. its probably fine but it's always better to get it checked.
Reply:Hi There!

I have had a mole since birth and in the past it has been itchy and bled. It is still there and I am fine.

However, we have to keep our eyes on moles because they can become cancerous. Any changes (colour, shape, itchiness, bleeding, etc ) should be checked out by a doctor.

You are doing the right thing in getting it checked out. Try not to worry, it will probably be nothing. But, better safe than sorry.

Good Luck

Reply:You have lived with this mole for a long time, so you know whats normal for you, you are obviously worried so therefore need to have it checked out by your Doctor. Health professionals recommend that if a mole becomes red, itchy or weepy then it should always be looked at.
Reply:You need to keep an eye on your mole....10 years ago I noticed that a mole I had had for years had changed in size and colour.

I had it removed and it turned out to be malignant melanoma...the worst kind of skin cancer....luckily to was caught early and dealt with.

This isn't the case with most moles but always get any changes checked out to be on the safe side.

Good Luck
Reply:good thing you're gonna go see someone about it. i wouldnt worry too much yet, if u explained to the person who booked your appointment what it was for chances are sh didnt think it was too serious. if it grows or gets really bad ring again...or ring again anyway to tell them youre really worried. they might give u a sooner date. good luck!
