Should I "Wake up" my skin defences before going on a tropical holiday by going on a sunbed?

I have never used them before as I'm incapable of tanning. I have very pale skin and never colour. I've also had some dodgy moles removed in the past and I'm very eager not to repeat the experience. As I'm travelling in the middle of winter would it be wise to give my skin a dose or two of UV first?

I'll obviously cover up abroad-I'll even use a parasol! But I'm bound to accidentally be exposed at times.

I'd appreciate some links if anyone knows any good ones!

I wouldn't. Just use lots of sunscreen, and reapply often. Why pay to get skin cancer, thats what I always say....
Reply:sorry, but tanning beds do not boost your uv tolerance if thats what you are trying to do. get some very high spf. keep it on even if it says waterproof, reapply each time you get out of the water (its not towel proof) and be careful, cover up in light airy fabrics. and accidental exposure a couple times is better than deliberate for a month or two.
Reply:yes you should its will actually save you from getting a worse sunburn. when you tan you will build your cells in the skin to block the sun. when you tan its like giving your meloncytes a work out. which lies in your epidermis. which is your top layer of your skin when you "work out" your meloncytes it makes it rise to the upper part of the epidermis causing your skin to regenerate more quickly. which makes your skin darken (not burn). if you dont tan and just go into the sun with or with out suncreen your at a higher risk of getting burned
