i was looking at a site about skin cancer and it made me decide to check myself, i noticed to asymmetrical black/dark brown spots on my upper thigh and a new mole on the back of my neck and shoulder, they are both less than a cm but im still wondering how serious it could be, i keep reading melanoma is "not serious if caught early" but how early is early? i just found them but i think the one on my neck has been there for about a year and i didnt think anything of it til now, i have a dr appointment but just want to get some ideas of what to expect if its bad news
Could this be a serious form of skin cancer?
as far as i know, usually they are the size of a pencil eraser, or bigger, however, smaller ones are becoming more common. think of your lifestyle(religious sunbather) and if youve been prone to moles and skin spots your whole life, and no matter what, go see your dr asap. better safe than sorry. early is what you describe, when you find a new mole or one that changes shape, color, texture, im just not sure how fast it progresses sorry.
Reply:Probably NOTHING...most moles are not cancerous. I had squamous cel carsinoma...aka...skin cancer...2nd leading cause of death in america (7 yrs ago). I think I had mine for at least a yr and didn't know it! The doctor cut it out and I've been cancer free ever since! good luck!
Reply:Yes, it may be serious, but you are doing exactly what you should be doing. Seeking professional help (dermatologist) as soon as possible. Good for you.
It may not be serious but only an exam can tell you that, no one of us on the computer can determine that.
I'm 76, have had all three forms of skin cancer, melanoma the worst kind, found on my chest over 4 years ago, had it removed surgically and here i am still kicking!
Keep checking those moles, don't worry needlessly and GOOD LUCK from one who has been there.
Reply:If it IS cancer, it doesn't sound that serious yet. Go to the doctor if you want to know.

Why has Mederma irritated my skin?
I've been using mederma for about 4 days now and today I discovered that the skin around my scar is a little irritated(red). If I stop using Mederma, will it go away. I has a mole removement over my lip and really don't like the scar at all. My folks say thats unoticeable but it is to me. Any advice is much appreciated.
Why has Mederma irritated my skin?
This is actually common, my husband was burned about a year ago and was using Neosporin (which is very similar to mederma) religiously and his skin became irritated, his plastic surgeon told him to continue use for another week until it became unbearable then to discontinue use and put a lotion on to soothe the irritation.
Reply:When I use a lotion I am allergic to, it takes using it 3-5 days before I start breaking out. My guess is that you are allergic to the lotion. Since the lotion is throughout the layers of skin, it will take a week or more for the reaction to stop.
GOOD LUCK!

A question about possible skin cancer?
I had a mole for a while and recently it's been itchy and it changed colors (it was dark brown and now it's almost skin color n) and I also developed a rash all around it that looks like eczema. What's going on?
A question about possible skin cancer?
it sounds like you think it's skin cancer. it could be a rash darling, so don't fret yet. in any case, you should see a dermatologist (go ask your family doctor to refer you to one) and get some ointment at the least.
Reply:You should probably see the dermatologist to make sure its not cancerous.
Reply:The change of color and itchiness are signs it may be skin cancer. The only way to know for sure is a trip to the dermatologist. Sooner than later would be better. Good luck.

Is this possibly skin cancer?
I have previously had a couple serious sunburns that have caused blisters, one time very large blisters. Recently, I have noticed an old mole near the area of the sunburns has a white mark near the center and has started to have some tenderness. I have talked to some people, none of them medical professionals, and they say the only reason it is tender is because I have been feeling it. Could these be symptoms of skin cancer?
Is this possibly skin cancer?
when it is a different color as the skin around it, that can be a warning sign of cancer.
doesn't have to be.
but best to get it checked by a MD ASAP.
Reply:You should consult your doctor. It's much better to be safe than sorry. The sooner you get that taken care of (if it's cancerous) the better because it can be quickly and more easily removed.
Reply:Doctor, NOW!
Reply:Why do you always ask friends and strangers instead of the professional in the business of medicine..Is it because you have a problem with facing the truth..
Why wait any longer.. Go see your doctor . . . before it is too late.
Reply:umm, i sugest a doctor or a dermatologist appointment soon. my grandma died from cancer because she didnt take care of it until it was too late. so plz dont wait. first thing in the morning make an appointment.
good luck!!
Reply:Any changes in skin should be looked at by an MD. It's always better safe than sorry. And every time u get sunburned you increase your chances for skin cancer. Enjoy the sun moderatley and use a sunscreen to prevent burns.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, but just to be on the safe side , go to one ASAP.
Reply:See a dermatologist. They'll be able to assess your risk based on a lot of factors (genetics, sun history, etc) and they'll inspect the mole. If it's suspicious, it'll be biopsied. Otherwise, it'll be measured and photographed for comparison at your next check-up. Please do this soon - melanoma is one of the deadliest forms of cancer primarily because it's hard to catch it early.
Reply:see a doctor now...better be sure it's nothing to worry about
Reply:You could have melanoma. It can become deadly. Have it checked out now.
Reply:Be careful not to get sunburns but yes, you should seek a professional for an exam. It doesn't hurt. Stay safe
Reply:Theproblem is most of the time there are no symptoms of skin cancer. You should go in andlet a dermatologist look at it.

Do I have skin cancer?
I have a small mole on my arm and it is a greenish color. I've had it for as long as I can remember. Could it be skin cancer? Maybe a vein under it or something?
Do I have skin cancer?
Have your MD take a look at the mole. If it has always been like this, it is likely fine. If you suddenly notice any change in a mole or a new mole appears just be cautious and go see your MD. It's never to cautious to be on top of these things.
If you think it's the same shape and color as always just bring it up at your next appointment with the MD. If you are worried call.
Reply:i hope.... lol jk. go to the doctor. and ask them. im guessing its a vein.
Reply:of course you don't have skin cancer .don't worry.just go visit an doctor.
Reply:get tested and ask for a bioptsie.
Reply:Well at first when I read 'greenish color' I was a bit alarmed and thought it might be something... but when you said you've had it as long as you can remember... that is highly unlikely to be cancerous... Generally cancer happens when the cells mutate and grow out of control, which causes visual changes to a mole.... if its never changed or grown noticeably larger, then i wouldnt worry. And as far as the green color.... i have no idea... do you have olive colored skin by any chance?
Reply:Just a harmless mole, has it grown in size ? if no forget about it, enjoy life. Do not get depressed unnecessarily. Good luck.
Reply:I'm pretty sure the answer is not, but to have a complete peace of mind: make an appointment %26amp; see your GP.
Reply:If you have had it for as long as you can remember then it certainly is not skin cancer.Go to the doctor and ask if it is possible to have it removed if it bothers you so much.
Reply:you need to have your doctor do a biopsy, we cant tell you if you have cancer or not.
Reply:I had one on a foot sole years ago and my mother to go to the Doctor because she said it could be dangerours, it seems that is not good something in that place. I went to the Doctor they took my mole out and cheeked it. Nothing to be worried about it was nothing just a mole. But I felt relieved. So my advise is....Get rid of the mole!! There´s not pain, they
anesthetize the zone and you´re gonna fell relieved.
Good Luck!!

I have a lot of beauty marks, and a mole since i was young. Are these signs of skin cancer?
As long as they don't get bigger or change shape there is nothing to worry about, it's normal and common to be born with beauty marks and moles.

I have this mole on my side that I've had for as long as I can remember. Recently, it appears to have been growing slightly. It's growing outward off my body and not spreading like I thought it might. Could this be a sign of skin cancer?

Go see your doctor and have it evaluated by a trained professional!
Reply:Please get this checked as soon as possible. Malignant melanoma spreads fast if it is that.
Reply:Moles do grow or increase in size sometimes. I, though, do have skin cancer, I am 33 and you NEVER know what it may look like. The 4 times I have had areas surgically removed from my body, they looked like teeny-tiny harmless freckle that EVERYBODY has, not even raised off the skin. Thank goodness I rushed to the doctor for something that looked not much more that a little bug bite, that the doctor was able to find each of these and remove them. It's really very simple, takes only a few minutes, and pretty painless. Go see a dermatologist right away, don't be scared. You will feel so much better after you have. Good luck, you'll be OK.

i had a freckle start to grow...
i mentioned it to my dr who had me see a surgeon in a month...
the surgeon took one look at the freckle turned mole and said he had to cut it out immediately ...
he removed it and send it away for testing...
it came back the most dangerous type of melanoma...
i have since had node biopsies and a neck dissection......
i am 32 and cancer free...
go to the dr....
in the mean while... look into what i was told to do by other cancer survivors....
I was told to give up dairy,
take vitamin c,
take flax oil pills,
buy organic foods,
use natural products to wash your clothes,
your hair,
eat organic meat,
use non flouridated toothpaste,
rid your kitchen of anything plastic that might touch food....
use a cast iron frying pan....
take hot showers and scrub skin with a softbrush
use a sauna if you can....

Hmm, I have a small lump under my skin... what can it be?
I'm a 19 yr old female with a small lump under my skin on my left shoulder. It's about .75 of a centimeter and a little purplish in color. But it's not the color of the lump itself but the skin on top of it is just discolored a little. It's perfectly round and is not a mole or wart or anything like that. I don't think it's a cancer because it's not irregularly shaped and isn't growing out of control.
My first thoughts were that it was a cyst or something that was in the skin for a long time and then it just started turning purple because there was old blood in it or something. Last night i took a needle and poked it fairly deep ( ouch!) and nothing came out! So now I am sitting here wondering... When i touch it it's kind of firm and does not hurt at all. Oh yeah and the skin on top of it is kind of wrinkly but yet smooth looking. So it's shiny in a way with soft wrinkles on them. Thanks for the incoming responses! :3
Hmm, I have a small lump under my skin... what can it be?
I had one in my upper arm. Had a biopsy done and found out it was just fat deposit. Very simple surgery took care of it. The surgery itself took less than 15 minutes, was out patient and painless.
Please have your doctor look at it right away. Something harmless has a potential to turn into something more serious if left alone.

Where should I go to get screened for skin cancer?
I think I may have skin cancer. Do I just go to my regular doctor to get the mole in question checked, or should I go elsewhere? Thanks.
Where should I go to get screened for skin cancer?
a dermatologist is likely your best bet, since skin is their specialty. But dermatologists are specialists, so check your ins coverage- you may need a referral from your reg doc to get an appointment with one, for ins purposes. Good luck.

Reply:Chloe,
If you like your regular MD yes if he/she feels it is out of their hand they will refer you to a skin doctor.
Reply:Make an appointment with a dermatologist. (You may need a referral from your PCP, if your insurance requires that.)

Whenever a mole begins to change, it is very important to have it looked at by a Dermatologist. It may mean nothing at all, but better safe than sorry!

I have very very light skin and so i am very cautious of sun burns. I havent been burned in 3 years (not even just a little) Well I just got burned 2 weeks ago, it was so depressing. Anyway, the burn went away and i am a little darker.
I am concerned becasue there is this thing on my back (shoulder) at first it just looked like I was peeling but its STILL there. Its all red and brown around it, its almost looks like a bruise. Well i do have a mole on my lower back but it looks ok but it a little bit bigger than normal...do you think i am ok? or could it be skin cancer?
Is it skin cancer?
Liz
This red/brown mark... is it big enough that if you had it before the sun burn, you'd of noticed it? If so, it is 99.9999% not skin cancer because skin cancer simply doesn't just appear following sunburns, they require mutations and other things to "go wrong", let alone the time for the cell divisions for it to get to the point for it to get big enough to be visible.
Also, you mention at the same time that you have a mole on your back, but you'd notice a somewhat dramatic change if it were melanoma - and the fact you're already looking at the red/brown thing will effect what you perceive as having happened to your mole.
My advice... look at the first question I ask you... If your reasonably sure the red/brown thing wasnt there before the sun burn, DON'T WORRY - you're okay.
Reply:Only a physician can tell you what this thing is, so go to the doctor. If you don't know what it is you couldn't possibly know what to do about it.

Very itchy skin, what could it be?
im not allergic to anything at all ive not changed my washing powder, or anything my lifestyle is exactly the same, but my arms back legs and face have been extremly itchy, i am going for a biopsy on my mole soon, i may be silly saying this but could this be a sign of skin cancer?
thankyou
Very itchy skin, what could it be?
You are allergic to something. For me it's food. Take an antihistamine and it will stop.
It could be due to the stress of having an upcoming biopsy.
Reply:ium sorry for that pls seek help from the docter
Reply:if u see a mole that is assymetrical, then the area of the mole is where the skin cancer is. not serious though.
Reply:I have something like that just take a nap and chill out
Reply:You may just need to take an antihistamine I have to for the same thing it really does help.
Reply:no it probably just is an acid efect when you feel ants or bugs croaling in your skin
Reply:Maybe it's just dry skin itch. no i wouldnt think it would be a cancerous mole so don't be afraid
Reply:No.
Sounds more like an allergy.
Buy an antihistamine (Benzidrine) It will stop the itching!
Reply:Put your mind at ease. Itchy skin is not skin that's cancerous. More likely it's skin that's really dry.
Neutrogena makes an anti-itch moisturizer that's pretty good.
You might also try an extra rinse cycle in the laundry, or switching from powdered detergent to liquid (which rinses out of clothes better), since residual detergent can start up the itch cycle.
Reply:usually not, it could be bed mites...vacumme your bed and wash the sheets in hot water...bet ya it stops..either that or you have eaten or come in contact with something your body does not like...drink lots of fresh water...it will help flush the system..hope it helps
Reply:maybe crabs!
Reply:Best not to be thinking about cancer too soon, it could be any number of things, dermatitis covers a whole range of itchy skin rashes. It could be an allergic reaction to something youve recently ingested, could be prickly heat thats causes the itchyness. I wouldnt get too worked up over it, explain to your doctor whats happening and they will be able to diagnose better for you. It could be a case of giving you some type of cream to help with the itching and keep it under control.
Dermatitis affects everyone at some point in their lives, if your skin has slightly raised flaky patches it could be an early sign of Excema or even Psoriasis but a skin specialist will be able to determine what it is.
Good luck withe biopsy.
Reply:i just went to the dermotologist for dry extremely itchy skin that i would itch until it was raw, i was told i have eczema. The more you scratch the more it itches. I got some steroid cream and after 1 week ta-da i don't itch anymore and my rashes are gone.
Reply:could be stress, if you are worried about your upcoming biopsy. stress does all kinds of goofy things to our bodies. take an antihistamine and try to relax. Also, as we age, we may become allergic to new things, or old allergies may be reduced or go away. if the antihistamine doesn't help, contact your doc.
Reply:It might be a form of eczema....i suffer from itchy legs and arms....even though their is no visual rash. mention it to your gp on your next visit...glad to hear your getting the mole checked out hun.... good luck mwah xx
ps. hope this helps in some way
Reply:You may have an allergy towards MSG (monosodium Glutomate) which is a flavour enhancer found in many foods, expecially sweet %26amp; sour. I have this and have to read all the ingredients in everything i eat carefully. This just began about 3 years ago all of a sudden.
Reply:try calamailotion!
it soothes the itchiness %26amp; cools you skin
but do show it to your dr
Reply:Eczema....thats some of the symptoms my kids had....
Reply:certainly not! Skin neoplasmas (melanoma is not a cancer technicaly) don't hurt. (Metaplasmas can - tumours in other organs).
You can have very dry skin which is oversensitive to heat. Or some food allergy that you are not aware (yet).
Reply:you could actually have internal disease but im not saying if it is, but try getting some cream like Nivea, that can calm your skin down a bit and it might stop the itchyness, if not go to see your local doctor and he might be able to tell you. hope i helped you!!!
Reply:Could it be scabies??
(dont think i'm judging you, but it sounds familar)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/relationships/sex_a...
Reply:could be something just simple change of weather. can cause dryness.
Reply:It is probably a stress itch. seeing that you are going in for investigation on a mole, the stress and worry you are experiencing would be causing you to itch. I start scratching when i am nervous or worried and an aunt of mine used to come out in a stress/tension rash.
thankyou

Could it be skin cancer?
Now I know it's not smart to come to the internet
for advice, but I just want your guys' opinions.
Since about a few months ago, I've had this like..
mole thing in the middle of my chest. It's not exactly
a "mole", but it just is a small brown spot that looks kind
of smudged. I've read up on skin cancer and stuff, and
it doesn't look NEARLY as bad as half the pictures they
post as examples.
Here is a picture of it though.

Hi there, after seeing and hearing alot about cancer over the last few months ( diagnosed september) your pic doesn't look like it,could it be a spot that you have scratched and it has become infected, the yellow colour could be puss... Never the less I would certainly go and see your doc to put your mind at rest, good luck..
Reply:Go to a dermotologist.Don't play around with this.Early treatment can be life saving.

After getting something removed how long till your skin looks back to normal?
so I'm just wondering if you get a mole or wart removed how long after they do that will your skin look normal, like how long until you can actually not wear a bandaid over it?? how long till it goes away?
After getting something removed how long till your skin looks back to normal?
It depends on how large and the severity. Usually it takes about a week with a bandade and 2/3 weeks to finally heal.
Reply:it might not. use vitamin e oil

Skin Cancer??
I noticed pn my habd that I had a mole. Well, its been there since i was born, so i don't pay attention to it much but i noticed that it is a tiny bit bumpy, and it looks a tiny bit odd shaped. Its not odd colored its just brown. My grandfather had skin cancer, and so did my aunt.I dont get sunburnt much and if i ever go outside I put on sunscreen! I told my Friend and they said I was just freaking out! I am so scared! Is it Skin Cancer or not?
Skin Cancer??
Don't be scared over 1 million people a year get skin cancer.
There are several kinds. If caught in time there is usually not a real problem. Just get your Dr. at it. In the mean time type in Basal Cell Carcinoma in the yahoo web search. Look at pictures and see if any look like it or if the description fits.
Good luck dear.
Reply:your next check up ask your dr. there are moles that can become canserus but your prolly just overly worried. but its better than not caring. But ask your dr to look at it. better safe than sorry

Guys: do you find small moles attractive?
i'm debating whether or not to get my mole removed. its small but its noticable (not hairy or gross). its light brown and i have tan skin. its on my chin to the left (not a awkward place). what do you think? do you think its totally gross?
Guys: do you find small moles attractive?
they're neither attractive nor unattractive. save your money you would have spent on getting it removed and buy some clothes or something.

I am paranoid about skin cancer?
I used to use the tanning bed (just in the summer) when I was a teen and early 20's. Now, I am 27 and don't tan. The thing is I am so pale and I want to be tan. I hate that self tanning stuff cause it stinks. Also, every time I have a weird looking mole or anything I am super paranoid about it being melanoma. I get skin checks every year. Does anyone think that the sun is bad? Can I get just a little like an hour on the weekend? Let me know what you think.
I am paranoid about skin cancer?
If you really want to tan outside, dont tan at 12:00-3:00 because the sun is at its worst at those times. Also, you can use those spray on tanners, get one from Cover Girl because it doesnt make you look orange.
Reply:I'm scared of skin cancer too. I am going to start using bronzer. it's healthier, and looks the same.
Reply:I think a little sun is okay and it's healthy. The sun helps with Vitamin D. If you get regular check ups, then I really don't see the problem with an hour on the weekend.
Reply:an hour during the weekend wont hurt!
sun provides us with vitamin D...apart from the one hour weekend session, i suggest you also go for early morning sun rendezvous..
cheers!!
Reply:The sun can be both harmful and good for the skin. I think it was a wise decision to stop tanning. If you haven't had skin cancer yet, I would just continue using sun screen every day, or use make up with SPF. I little bit on the weekends is not bad for you at all, your skin needs a little sun to stay healthy, just make sure not to over-do it.
Reply:A little sun is okay! just don't get burnt. a big risk factor for melanoma is a peeling sunburn. Just don't stay out long enough that your skin will peel and use lots of moisturizer.
Reply:Doctor Dean Odell has a radio talk show in San Francisco he is so paranoid about skin cancer he never sees the sun. So your skin is pale, you would make a big hit in Saigon the girls would do anything to have your pale skin. They have the most beautiful brown skin and don't like it. So be happy.
Reply:a little sun is good for you. just wera sunscreen.. the write one for you. which sounds like 30 or maybe 45.
u shouldnt be getting sooo much sun, but some sun is healthy for you!

Skin Cancer?
I just went though hell the past week waiting for the results of my mole biopsy...AND IT IS OK!!!
My question to you is, do you think it is really worth being tan now and risking skin cancer in the furture. Do you think about the dangers of tanning, or just think it won't happen to you when you are baking in the sun and/or tanning booth?
I just want to say to you people who fake and bake or sit in the sun unprotected for hours and hours like I did as a teenager (I'm now 26): It is NOT worth it. Trust me. Take care of your skin!
Skin Cancer?
Generally, the best way to get some sun is to just go about your job or daily routine normally in the daytime. Fake tans and long hours of baking in the sun are harmful and it's just NOT a natural thing to do. When you go against nature, a lot of problems arise. Most people are very ignorant to the dangers of attaining fake tans and baking in the sun and only come to realize the severity of it when they contract or develop some form of unfavorable results. It's not worth the risk.
Love the skin you're in, don't try too hard to change it and be something that you're not.
Good to know you're ok!
Reply:It's completely stupid to go and bake outside or in a tanning booth. I know so many people who don't think it will happen to them in a booth, but it can and it does.
Reply:Baking in the sun and tanning are very very dangerous. UV radiation causes the release of billions of damaging radicals and oxidants that lead to premature aging of the skin, DNA mutations in skin cells and cancer in many cases because the resources of immune system are not boundless. PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELVES!
Reply:I try to stay out of the sun ~ with the ozone depletion, on medications, it dosnt make any sense to get a tan ~
I agree, its not worth the risk !
Reply:I am VERY fair. I never tanned in the sun or in the booth. I still got sun burnt from time to time even with the sunscreen and hats. Last summer I had a stage 3 melanoma removed and since then we believe it has come back (doc appointment this week). It is never worth it to be darker to risk your life. You should be happy withthe color you are even ifthat's pale as a gohst! The fairer you are the higher your risk and the more you have to tan to get the look you want.

Really weird skin rash?
This rash as far as I can tell started on my right hand by a spider bite last summer. The bite stayed for a long time and then around September it started getting bigger on my hand. Now in the past 3 or 4 months, I have a rash on my left forearm and some on my right arm.
On my right hand there is a very large spot that is red and bumpy near the thumb. There is also a smaller one on the right side of the wrist area that is very bumpy and dry.
On my right arm all that are present are white patches where my skin is discolored but not red or bumpy.
My left arm has a large white patch (about 1 inch by 3 inches) and this has some red bumps around the outside of the shape. There is some scabbing there because I got sick of it and itched like a mad man...bad, i know.
And just last week I discovered that there is what appears to be a mole on my neck. The mole is next to a knew dark red bumpy rash.
They all itch quite badly, but not all the time.
I tried using hydrocortizone cream but it

Are there any tests to detect skin cancer?
other than the mole changing its orignal appearance, are there any other tests to detect skin cancer? which one at the doctors and which ones from home (if there are any from home)?
Are there any tests to detect skin cancer?
Nonmelanoma skin cancer is detected and diagnosed by:
- Your medical history. Your health professional will ask when the skin change occurred, whether you have been exposed to substances (such as arsenic) that can cause skin cancer, and whether you have any personal or family history of skin cancer.
- A physical examination of the skin growth. Your health professional can often tell what a skin growth is by looking at it. After examination, he or she may decide to monitor any change in the skin growth or take a sample of the skin growth for further testing.
- A skin biopsy. This is usually done when an area of skin has changed color, shape, size, or appearance or has not healed and skin cancer is suspected. A skin biopsy also may be done if the cause of a skin problem is not easily identified.
Early Detection
Take steps to detect skin cancer early:
- Examine your skin once a month, and ask your health professional to look at any suspicious skin growths.
- Talk to your health professional about your own personal risk for skin cancer so that you understand the precautions that you need to take.
- Have your health professional look for any suspicious skin growths during any health examination.
Reply:the better person to ask is a dermatoligist
Reply:shape, size, color,if it scabs could be basil cell carcinoma, if it is red all the time. You really need to let them take a sample of it and send it off to be sure.
Better Safe Than Sorry! Good Luck and I pray it's alright!
Reply:just go to you family docot or and get them to look at it... more than likely he/she will remove it right in the office and have it sent out... I had a mole I worried to death over for 4 years... I was losing my mind! NO REALLY... until I couldn't take another minute of it... I though this is skin cancer I'm going to die I need to know how long I have... I went to my doctor in tears...scared is not the word.. he looked concerned to and said it needed to be removed and biopsied at once.... a week of waiting, 2 stiches...and I GOT MY LIFE BACK... it was not cancer Thank the lord... so please just go to your doctor chances are it's really nothing
Reply:No tests from the home that would be any more accurate than flipping a coin. A dermatologist can do a biopsy if he suspects skin cancer. This tissue sample is then read by a pathologist who will then say whether or not the tissue is benign or malignant. Then the report will tell you what type skin cancer, what type cells, and whether or not the cancer was deeper than the bit of tissue removed by the dermatologist. This determines whether you need additional treatment and the extent of this treatment.
If the the condition is benign they also report whether you have warts, or whatever else going on.

Could I have skin cancer?
I have a mole about 2" under my left breast, on the upper part of my belly. Except, the "mole" has no color! If I prick at it, it does not hurt. Could this be skin cancer? I do have a history of cancer in my family.
Also, I will be visiting my women's doctor soon, should I have her look at it?
Could I have skin cancer?
The only way to truly know is to go for a diagnosis. You should ask your doctor about it and to examine you.
Although you may have a family history of cancer, it does not mean that you will necessarily have one. You need to pay attention to your diet and do more regular exercises to reduce your risk.
To know more about skin cancer, here are some articles that you can refer to

Reply:Have it checked out. If you are going to the doctor anyways it wont take any extra time, and it might save your life.
Reply:My skin cancer was found about there, but I wouldn't worry my mole had bled and grew - so if it's been there - or changed color or shapes - have it checked out and no losing sleep until you have it removed and wait for results - even then I am sure you will be fine.
Reply:It doesn't sound like skin cancer. Usually you suspect a mole to be cancerous if:
- its asymmetrical
- its borders changed (color, borders got raised
- if its color changes
- if its diameter increases in a short amount of time
since you are going to the doctor anyways have them look at it but i wouldn't worry needlessly
plus you haven't told us what kind of cancer runs in your family, if its not skin cancer it doesn't make you more susceptible to it. has the size of the mole changed or has it been like this always? if it has always been like this don't worry.
Also, I will be visiting my women's doctor soon, should I have her look at it?

My dog has a "skin tag" that has gotten so big, I need to know what to do.?
He has always had a black mole -like growth on the outer part of his chest...everyone assumes it is a nipple or skin tag. For 6 years it has looked the same, then 2 days ago it started swelling, and filling up with fluid. It is now the same color he is , brown, but as it continues to grow I can see the skin stretching so it will probably get lighter in color. Right now it is resembling a large acorn in every way, just no acorn hat, :) or a large brown grape. He is fixated on it now and licks it all the time. It looks gross, looks like it could be painful, and honestly I am afraid he might try to chew it off. How serious could this acorn be and is it a nipple, mole, what? He is a boxer rott mix, and I have noticed a few other spots that are small but black and fleshy kind of like this one used to be. Any advice would be great. Vet says 400 dollars to remove it, but I am a couple zeros shy so is there a home remedy? thanx much!
My dog has a "skin tag" that has gotten so big, I need to know what to do.?
take him to the vet and have them look at hit because it could be a type of cancer or disease and you may want to take care of it before it gets worse
Reply:id take him to a diffrent vet because my vet removed something like that off my dog and charge around 80
Reply:Anything that changes like that can be a problem. You should make an appointment with the vet and have it taken care of. No home remedies for something like that.. A vet does NOT charge $400 to remove a skin tag, and does not charge $400 to remove a tumor.. If yours does, then he is ripping you off and it's time for a new vet.
Reply:Try phoning a local humane society and asking them for help. They may be able to give you the name of a Vet that will be cheaper or do you have an organisation like the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) that help people on low incomes get proper Vet Care. (Perhaps the local humane society will do it or know if there is one available)
Not sure how much $400 is in UK£'s but it seems expensive! He does need to see someone though so I hope you can get help soon. Good Luck!
Reply:I cannot understand why you are asking this question when it is OBVIOUS that poor dog is suffering and needs immediate treatment..Did you ever think before you got that dog that it might need medical treatment and to take out an insurance for just that?..If you love your dog then you'll find that money from somewhere..Dogs are not just for christmas..it's for life..I hate cruelty to animals

Covering up moles on holiday in the sun?
I have one mole on my back and I dont wanna cover up the whole back , what can i use to cover it? I was thinking plasters, or will the sun go through it? Any ideas people? I dont wanna get skin cancer when i go on holiday and of course i will be wearing a high spf.
Covering up moles on holiday in the sun?
Obviously the only way to be totally safe it to cover up but if you keep applying a total block on your moles that is the next best thing.
Reply:do u just not want it to show?
i would try concealer if you dont go in da water
Reply:Go to www.dancedepot.co.uk %26amp; get some dermo colour camoflage.... this stuff covers us a huge unsightly scar on my stomach, it will defintaly cover up a mole, it also doesn't come of easily in water. You can also put sun bock over the makeup with out it fading or smearing.
Reply:I had the same problem when i was on holiday and i found the two best things to use where one - Vaseline, one in the yellow tin, it has a sun factor 50 to stop lips cracking and burning in the sun. Just dab this on the mole a few times a day or a lip balm with a spf in it, this stops your mole from getting sun burnt!! xx

Skin Question?
I treated a mole on my forehead about a month ago. I trated it pretty heavily, and now there is a brown ridge surrounding the area of skin where it was treated. The skin inside the brown ridge has almost turned to the regular color of my skin, but the brown ridge is still there. I really hope that it doesn't stay on my forhead forever???? Can you PLEASE give me some insight on this??????????? Thank you.
Skin Question?
you treated it yourself???!?!?
go to a dermotologist.
Reply:What do you mean by treat? Did you go to a doctor? If you feel something is wrong or not right, you need to go back to the doctor.
Reply:Treated it with what? I hope you mean you went to a dermatologist. Moles can become cancerous. I've had a bunch of them removed because they were in precancerous stages, and one tiny one that looked like nothing was a melanoma.

Removal Of Moles Causes Cancer?
If I accidently remove a mole by scratching it off because it was scabed, am I at risk of Melanoma or other skin cancers?
Removal Of Moles Causes Cancer?
Moles are pigmented macules, papules, or nodules composed of clusters of melanocytes or nevus cells. Their main significance (other than cosmetic) is their potential for being or becoming malignant. Suspect lesions (changing or highly irregular borders, color changes, becoming painful, or starting to bleed, ulcerate, or itch) are biopsied.
Moles may be removed surgically if they affect the appearance or if they have an increased cancer risk. Be sure to discuss your options with your doctor to decide how and when to remove any moles. Untroublesome moles are usually circular or oval and not very large. Some scientists suspect that overexposure to ultraviolet light -- including excessive sunlight -- may play a role in the formation of acquired moles. However, more research is needed in this area. Genes can also have an influence on a person’s moles.
Please see the web pages for more details on Moles.
Reply:Removing the mole does not increase the risk of cancer, but the mole itself could be a problem especially if it was an odd color, irregularly shaped or bled easily. Melanomas often start as mole/freckle like spots.
Reply:No, i don't think so..but some moles are cancerous, so i would advise you to go visit a dermatologist.
Reply:It should be done by a dermatologist. You can cause an infection or worse by trying to remove it yourself.
Reply:Removing of a mole by yourself may pose serious problems. Let the job be done by an expert dermatologist. Scratching will increase chances of infection.
Reply:I think only if it had cancer before.....my mom got rid her mole that had melanoma like 2 years by the doctor....but the doctor did it wrong and now it came back and is all over :(

Is this growth a sign of skin cancer?
I have a strange growth on the inside of my leg that my husband calls: a hanging mole. It is the same color as the rest of my skin but it is swollen at it's base, slinder at the middle, and has a ball shape at the tip.
Should I be concerned about this? I've never seen this type of growth on my body before. It started to appear about two years ago.
Is this growth a sign of skin cancer?
It is hard for me to tell by the description, because the way that oncologists tell this is by not only looking at it, but also feeling it in a certain way. The best thing you could of done, was to get it checked out when it first appeared. Everyone should know that there is a difference between going to the doctor over nothing, and going to the doctor for a reason. You are a patient that has a reason. There are other things that this growth could be. Your best bet now is to go to the doctor and get it checked out. I am no doctor, although I have read the Merck Manual, EMT textbook, The Manual To Oncology, but I still have not gone to medical school yet, so don't use my advice as your treatment. Please, go to your doctor. I personally don't think that it is skin cancer, because you should have noticed other symptoms within two years. Now, if for some reason whether it be money, or something else, there are many websites that for a small price, you can ask trained professionals. In fact, if you belong to a hospital, your doctor may have a personal website in which you can submit a question. There are many ways. But you should be concerned. Any abnormal growth can be dangerous. And there is no harm in doing some research on the side ALONG with going to your doctor. What you are doing by asking this question is great, but you should also ask this same question to a doctor.
Reply:wow.. it's been there a long while huh?
i would've probably gone to a dermatologist a lot sooner..
Reply:this dont sound like skin cancer to me(and i think im an expert)lol it sounds what your husband says"hanging mole "nearly everyone gets these type of moles/warts whatever you want to call them ive had skin cancer for four years ans its nothing like you have discribed, ifyou been prodding!it thats why its probley in that funny shape, but to put your mind at rest see your gp,im sure you will be ok fingers x

Reply:From the description that you have given it sounds like a growth that my grandfather also has on his back. He has had it on his back for decades. It isn't discolored or anything its just a mole with extra skin.

Moles( birth)?
my hubby has a mole on his back which i think is just a harmless one, but last night i noticed the "head" is coming off, just held on by a hinge of skin, I am tempted to pull it off to let it heal ,but not sure, advice please. he is poo pooing the idea that these can be cancerous
Moles( birth)?
go to your GP
Reply:you need to have a doctor look at this
is can be cancerous or ust be a skin tag
regardless home surgery is not he solution, it is time for a professional
Reply:do not pull it off - it could bleed loads and make it worse.
it should probably be checked by a medical professional. the earlier they see these things the better.
Reply:I just researched this and if the edge is like misshapen or the mole in general or if it starts to change colors and other stuff it can be melanoma which is the worst kind of skin cancer please go see your GP
Reply:I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. If he has had this all his life and it hasn't got any bigger, I wouldn't worry but birth marks do not come off. It could be a melanoma please get him to a Dr, if the root spreads to his lymph nodes he's in a lot of trouble. If he won't go tell him to contact me and I'll explain the situation to him

Reply:DO NOT PULL AS HE CAN BLEED A LOT plus if brown, purple, discharge see Dr

Skin questions?
1. I'm caucasian (15 years old). I have porcelain skin and blue eyes (born platinum blonde). I'm pretty fair skinned now (ivory concealer is too dark on me to give you an idea) but I want a way to become lighter skinned. Also I need a way to get lighter all over my body, not just my face. The only part of my body that ever gets any sun exposure at all is my hands and that's rare. I don't really wear sunscreen but I always wear a long sleeved hoodie and jeans (maybe sandals every now and then but that's it). Don't get me wrong about the skin tone I want. I don't want to come out looking like Michael Jackson.
2. My face and neck are clear but I have freckles on my arms. How can I get rid of those freckles? I wear a long sleeved hoodie all the time and rarely go out during the sun's peak hours.
3. I have a mole on my neck and a few ones over my arms. They're small but I want to get them removed. How do I do that?
If you need to know anything else about me, just ask. Thanks.

Listen, we are no longer in Medieval England when it was cool to look like you've never been outside. Just don't worry about your skin tone. It actually sounds like you're too pale.
Reply:One tip is dont apply perfume or body spray to your skin because when you get in the sun it can make those areas pigmented. Spray perfume only on your clothes.
Home remedies
Lemon juice is a tried and tested remedy for treating freckles. Apply lemon juice with your fingers on the affected area; lemon juice bleaches the dark spots.
Regular use of fruit and vegetable masks such as those made with apricots, strawberries, cucumbers and red currant will help lighten freckles.

I get really big moles when I tan outside what can i do?
I am naturally fair skinned, but when I spend time out in the sun, i do get a nice tan, along with fairly large moles that continue to increase in size after sun exposure. Is there anything I can do to stop from getting new moles? sometimes I cover my existing moles with small pieces of bandaids so that they dont get any bigger...anyone got a better idea?
I get really big moles when I tan outside what can i do?
Your skin is begging you to stay out of the sun. What you are getting are solar keratoses, which can be pre-cancerous.
Reply:Whatever you do stop tanning outside until the moles have been biopsied. You reaction is not normal and needs to be addressed.
Reply:Go to a doctor NOW. This is not a good sign at all.. and as someone mentioned it oculd be pre-cancerous.
You might have to get each one surgically removed. Stop tanning until you know what's going on!

Skin on neck?
I always put moisturizers on my face and never on my neck and recently i have been noticing tiny extra skin on my neck, very small and its dark kinda looks like a mole. I also been noticing this on older people in the mod 40's. What is it?? and why am i getting this?
Skin on neck?
i forgotten what you call it but i have had them on my neck from wearing my gold chain in the heat of summer i had one on the side of my neck and one on side of my nose you need to find a doctor who will burn them off , not all doctors do it ask your own gp he probably will know some one ,they put ice on to numb it for a second and then they use like a little soldering iron thing which zaps it off it might sting a bit after but it works
Reply:Sounds like it could be a Seborrhoeic wart.....
Seborrhoeic warts aren't actually warts at all but something quite different. They're more properly called seborrhoeic keratoses because, even though they look 'warty', they aren't real warts at all (warts are caused by the wart virus). Seborrhoeic keratoses are non-cancerous growths on the outer layer of skin, and while they look unpleasant, they aren't harmful - just ugly. Like you, most people want them removed for cosmetic reasons.
You may have just one growth or there may be clusters of lesions. They're usually brown, but can vary in colour, from a pale fleshy colour to dark brown and even black. They may seem greasy or waxy, and often look as though they've been stuck on the skin and will just knock off. This is because they grow from a central 'stalk', which is hidden beneath the mushrooming lump. Size varies too, from tiny bumps, to large bobbly lumps as big as a 50p. They can develop anywhere, but most commonly on the back, chest, neck, scalp and face.
The cause is unknown, but age-related
The cause of seborrhoeic keratoses isn't known, but almost everyone will eventually develop at least a few of these growths as they age. They've been called 'barnacles of old age'. There's some evidence that they may be linked to changes in hormone levels, as they may also develop during pregnancy or following oestrogen treatment.
Seborrhoea keratoses aren't related to exposure to sunlight. Neither are they infectious. Most importantly, they have nothing to do with skin cancer.
While they may get larger, the only real medical problems they cause are a result of their size and position - that is, they can rub on clothes, get sore and bleed.
Treatment
Most seborrhoeic keratoses are eventually removed if the person requests it, because they can get irritated and bleed, and look unsightly. This is usually available on the NHS and involves simple techniques, usually done under local anaesthetic.
Seborrhoeic keratoses must be removed using one of three methods:
* cryotherapy to freeze them off
* curettage to scrape them off
* electrocautery to burn them off

Hello?! Priorities?!
Life and death....or work (for a measely company that doesn't give a flying you know what about you, your health, etc)?
Which is more valualble to you?
If your job can't let you take off for a medical procedure......is that someone/someplace you really want to be loyal to?!
Your employer needs to understand that in life.........there is a healthy balance between life and work......
and that they are not the only employer in the world.
If they value YOU......the answer should be simple.
......here's hoping your employer is worthy of YOU.
Goodluck.

Reply:No you can't!! Read the employee manual, you can not take time off for any reason whatso ever.
Reply:That depends on your job, some places allow you personal time...you can use it for that. Some places give sick time, you could use it, since you are seeing a doctor...but I've had moles removed and it doesn't take time to recover so you might want to save those days for when you really need them.
Reply:Yeah, it's not really worth missing work for. It was 99.99% painless for me.

Skin Cancer?
I have a family history of having skin cancer. When i was at MEPS (military entrance processing station) A mole came into question. That was about 2 months ago. Now i am getting it removed. However, this seems like a very serious thing because the doctor wanted it of NOW! I looked up the signs of melanoma and it seems to fit. What do i do if anything?
Skin Cancer?
That's a good question to ask the doctor.
Wear the highest sunblock with UV\UA protection available.
Wear protective clothing including a hat.
Keep your skin moisturized. They make unscented lotions.
Avoid being outside when the sun's at it''s worse for damaging the skin - between 10 A.M. and 2 P.M.
Make it a point to have regular checkups with a dermatologist to keep an eye on your skin.
Eat right, drink enough fluid, exercise, and get enough rest. Why? Because a body that's in peak physical condition stands a better chance of repairing cellular damage before it becomes cancerous.
Avoid tobacco smoke in any form and in any manner - don't smoke and don't breathe anyone's second hand smoke.
Avoid skin irritants - perfumes, colognes, strong soaps.
Reply:talk to the doctor who is having it removed. If they were worried they would tell you. The MEPS people freak over any little thing because once you are in the military you are their problem and the last thing they need is to find out you have cancer at bootcamp.
Reply:Just let the doctors do what needs to be done. They will work with you and get you back to full health. The have a great cancer treatment facility in Bethesda MD. I wish you the best of luck and God bless you.
Reply:There is a good website I think you should visit, the science of which deals with all skin conditions.
If you find it difficult to understand, we are very familiar with this science and can put it across in layman's terms.
Take care.
Reply:there are lots of kinds of skin cancer. most of which do not need to be concerned with. The two you do need to worry about are melanoma and squamous cell.
i would find out if the history was of something like basal cell or something.
Reply:Have it surgically removed, and the doctor will have it sent to pathology for biopsy. If it is melanoma, you will need to go back for a wide excision and sentinel node biopsy.
Reply:Nothing...let them remove it. The doctor wants it off now, so it doesnt have the chance to grow anything.

If your mole is brown(not the same color as your skin) what does that mean?
Ummm...well considering most moles are brown and aren't the color of you skin, I don't think that it means anything except that it is a mole.
If your mole is brown(not the same color as your skin) what does that mean?
it do's not mean anything
Reply:It means it's a normal color for a mole. Those things can be dark brown to light brown to beige. Now if it turns a different color, from the color it is now, then get to the doctor FAST! That might mean it's turning into cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I put garlic on a facial mole, and now the spot is all red, will the redness go away?
Ok, so I was searching the internet to see home remedies for getting rid of raised skin moles, mine is on the side of my face. So I found something that says you put garlic on it. So last night I cut some garlic in half and kept it on there non-stop when I took it off, there was a huge red circle around it with little brown spots. I think it's burnt or something. And on top of that, the mole is still there. Now my question here is, will that red mark go/fade away, and how long will that take!? someone please help me, I look like a freak with this thing on my face and I need to get rid of this red mark as soon as possible. :(
I put garlic on a facial mole, and now the spot is all red, will the redness go away?
Garlic has a lot of irritating properties, and probably your skin has some inflammation due to it.
Try putting hydrocortisone cream on the area 2-3 times a day. That should clear it up fairly quickly. If it is not better after 3 days or so...you know what I'm gonna say...go to the doc! (Your regular doctor can probably handle this,)
Good luck!

Boyfriend has throbbing headachearound same spot where he got a skin biopsy?
In May or April, my boyfriend, who is 19 years old, had a skin biopsy on the back of his headto remove a mole that was not cancerous. I am not sure if he's had pain before then, but SINCE that biopsy has happened he said the throbbing has increased around that spot. Is that normal? Or should we be concerned that it is something else? He said it is only in one area, not around the whole head, and that it feels like it is coming from the inside.
He doesn't have any insurance right now and we would like to know what to do.
Boyfriend has throbbing headachearound same spot where he got a skin biopsy?
April is a very long time for an area that was biopsied to still be causing problems. Is it possible he might have a sub-dermal cyst in the same area that is infected and causing him pain? If so this would be a chronic infection that will need lancing by a Dr and probably antibiotics before the pain is relieved. This should only involve one Dr appt. at urgent care so his cost will be about a hundred bucks or less. Go and get the area looked at by a Dr.
A biopsy taken from the skin would have nothing to do with a potential brain cancer or tumor so the location of the pain is just a coincidence. Maybe the biopsy turned a hair inwards and this is now inflamed?
Reply:There are too many variables to give a specific answer; it could be simple post-operative pain that will go away, or, it could be that the doctor/surgeon (d/s) inadvertently nicked a muscle and/or nerve, which may take a while to heal (this wouldn't be considered malpractice as it is not uncommon, and is usually treatable and/or will pass on its own, eventually).
Go to the d/s who performed the biopsy and/or mole removal (your question and details don't clarify whether they were done at the same time and/or by the same d/s) and ask about it. A good d/s shouldn't charge for post-op care, especially if the patient is in pain, but don't be surprised if he/she charges a nominal fee (even if you don't have insurance, you should be able to deduct the fees from your taxes, assuming, of course, that you're in the USA; I can't say whether this is true in other countries; also, most medical care providers charge substantially less and/or offer payments-over-time for patients without medical insurance).
BTW, you didn't mention anything about his parent(s) or guardian(s). He is under the age of consent, so why aren't they involved in this? In other words, it is THEIR decision and perogative to follow-up on this, not yours; clearly, they care about him, or they wouldn't have given their consent for the operation in the first place. The only thing you can do, at this time, is to offer your support, which, in many cases, is the best "medicine" of all (in other words, don't become an additional "headache" to him or his parents).
Good luck!

Skin Cancer?
I have a mole and it grew a hair does that mean i have skin cancer or not?
Skin Cancer?
No, it means you have a mole that happens to have a hair growing out of it. If the mole is growing irregularly or has multiple colors, bleeds or is any way suspicious then see a dermatologist for a proper evaluation. Read up here on the various common skin cancers and view the photos of what constitutes a suspicious mole.
http://www.skincancer.org/
Reply:No, a hair growing out of a mole does NOT necessarily mean it is skin cancer. I visit a web site: www.mpip.org who has many of us with melanoma. Their is only one way to be sure if a mole is skin cancer or not, a biopsy. It's a good idea to call a dermatologist and have them look at it. There are certain characteristics of a "problem" mole. You can find out what they are on www.mpip.org/bb. It is a bulletin board and we have a lot of fun, yet a lot of sadness as some lose their fight with melanoma. Don't be frightened. Take control. Call your Dr.

Has anyone out there tried organic remedies for mole or wart removal?
There's a product that's 100% organic - available through the Internet (abroad somewhere) that is supposed to get rid of warts and skin moles in a few weeks. There are lots of customer comments saying how amazing the product is -but I remember a year ago seeing other comments that said don't touch these products with a barge pole - they can actually cause more probelms than they cure and lead to blistering and scarring. I have a couple of very small skin moles on my face - and would rather treat them organically than by laser surgery (it'll be cheaper! Any comments, observations etc. appreciated.
Has anyone out there tried organic remedies for mole or wart removal?
Well, this is kinda off topic, but for warts you can put duct tape over them. It cuts off their oxygen supply and slowly kills them.
Not organic, but still useful to know.
Reply:Well back in the old days they used to rub egg shells on them, then bury the shells in the garden but the burial site must remain known to yourself only.Well its worth a try isnt it.
Reply:damn and i thought i was the only one who know about teh duck (duct?) tape! that really does work my son got rid of one on his foot that had defied treatment with freezing by the doctor for over a year!
afraid i haven't heard of organic tratment for moles but i would be doubtful of anything that says it treats moles and warts as they are not the same things, nor are they caused in the same way.
you def can't believe customer 'quotes' in anyones ads cos they are too easy to make up...
you need to be very very careful what you do to moles, especially on your face..
if i were you i would accept them as a part fo your beauty and let them be...
Reply:you are not to interfere with moles it can be dangerous.as for your warts warts-no-more from your chemist it is made of100%thuja and melaleuca oils.will get rid of your warts in around 10 days no scarring.try it
Reply:nope, but check at a natural foods store.

Reply:If it is a Mole it must be seen by a Doctor. For Warts, break the skin of the wart so that there is a trace of blood.Lightly rub a stick of blackboard chalk on the spot where the blood is, until you have a little red paste.Allow to dry. Do not wash the spot for a short while. After a day or two, the wart will develope a spot, and eventually pop, and the wart will be gone.
Reply:When i had warts i used match sulphur. wet the match till pasty and rub it over the wart. did this every day for a week and it went.depending on size.

I am only 20 years old but i have this mole on my upper rib cage right in the middle . I have had this mole since i was 15 i just woke up one day and it was there along with another mole that had apeard a couple inches over but that one apears to be normal. this mole that i am talking about is a dark purple mole and if you put pressure on it it will turn red. my grand mother died of melanoma cancer so it does run in the family. but it is almost as if when you push on the mole it will get smaller as if it is blood that is being pushed under the skin.i know i need to talkto adoctor about this but what do you think do you think it could be somthing else?

subman,
Since you have a family history and the moles just "appeared" it is suspicious - I'd go have it looked at - only a doctor and or biopsy can ease your worries. Call Monday so you can get on with a healthy life -
A- Asymmetry: Normal moles or freckles are completely symmetrical. If you were to draw a line through a normal spot, you would have two symmetrical halves. In cases of skin cancer, spots will not look the same on both sides.
B- Border: A mole or spot with blurry and/or jagged edges.
C- Color: A mole that is more than one hue is suspicious and needs to be evaluated by a doctor. Normal spots are usually one color. This can include lightening or darkening of the mole.
D- Diameter: If it is larger than a pencil eraser (about 1/4 inch or 6mm), it needs to be examined by a doctor. This is includes areas that do not have any other abnormalities (color, border, asymmetry).
E- Elevation: Elevation means the mole is raised above the surface and has an uneven surface.
Reply:You need to go see a doctor right now.
Reply:You really need to go to a doctor immediately.
If you cannot afford the doctor how about a clinic in your town.
Reply:See your doctor immediately and get that removed! It seems that your suspected melanoma might be going into Stage 4 (metastasis = R.I.P.) What your doctor is going to do is remove that whole mole for analysis to see if it has broken through basal lamina (Punch Biopsy Test). Also, you can tell if your mole is malignant if it loses that round shape. If it's cancer, don't tell your insurance company that you had a hereditary disorder or they will screw you over. Lastly, if it's cancer, you better hope that you have alot of $$$ for flexibility (just in case your insurance company decides not to cover you). Good luck!

Scars, moles, or freaky blood tumor?
I have one on my back and one on my chest just below my neck. Its a raised bump that kind of is shaped like a large mole but its a reddish pinkish color. Only slightly pinker then my skin color. Sometimes it itches. Also if is accidently hit one with something (like i hit my back one on the wall on accident) it stings for a minute. Ive had it for like 4 years AND IT WONT GO AWAY! Its kind of scaring me a bit because its grown a tiny bit overthe four years but not too much. What is it? Should i worry. Will it grow back if i get it removed? Help!

Yup, get it cut or frozen out, have it checked for cancer, and I guess they can return.

How do I remove a mole?
I have this mole that I have been wanting to remove forever.
It is an out of skin mole, just above my nose, almost straight in between my eyes, and I hate it!
Are there any home methods that I can do this?

I'd go to a dermatologist but if it's a birth mole then it's really hard to remove because I have one but it's one in the skin.

1) You wouldn't want to risk making it look worse than it already does with a scar.
2) Also, by doing it yourself, you could risk getting an infection.
3) Some moles could actually be a sign of skin cancer.
Why risk any of that?

Skin tag like on boyfriend scrotum?
If it's just a skin tag, then it can be removed. No big deal. If it was an STD, then he would have other marks of concern or discharge or something.
Reply:Good for you both in getting an STD check.
If it's a skin tag, then there isn't likely anything to be worried about.
Reply:Better safe then sorry; so both of you going to get tested is a great idea. If your test results came back fine and he hasn't cheated on you things should be fine. But wouldn't you rather know what it is for sure? I would.
Reply:Probably just a skin tag (acrochordon). But, your boyfriend should get regular diabetes checks as skin tags are more common in people with impaired glucose.
"We evaluated 120 patients with acrochordon for the presence of impaired carbohydrate metabolism. Overt diabetes mellitus (DM) was found in 88 patients and glucose intolerance was detected in 6 patients; 4 patients had reactive hypoglycemia."
Reply:A mole that grows or changes colour or shape can be diagnosed as a malignant melanoma. Basically it could be skin cancer. IT is worth getting checked by a dermatologist immediately just to be safe.
Reply:well.. make him really cold then look at it. Theres lots of skin there so it may just look like its getting bigger when really his skin is just all saggy. Whatever it is though, dont worry. You both will be fine.

Skin Cancer question?
Does skin cancer cause a bump on you skin? I have a bump that has what looks like a mole on it.
Skin Cancer question?
Yes skin cancer can appear in that way. Don't freak out yet, I want you to consider it's characteristics:
1.) Color - is it very dark (blackish), is there red mixed in?
2.) Does it have irregular boarders?
3.) Are the boarders assymetrical?
4.) Did it appear out of no where?
If it really concerns you call your doctor for an appointment to get it checked out. They may refer you to a dermatologist for a biopsy, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Hope this helps. Good Luck! :-)
Reply:This could be many things,but I don't think it's cancer,as it's the mole that would have changed appearances,but I have not heard of a bumplike mole.Go see a doc hun,then u'll know for sure. :)
Reply:Here is everything you should know about skin melanoma(s).
Reply:Since I live in Arizona, skin cancer is a big issue. I try to keep track of the moles I have and what they look like. If you notice a new mole, or if an existing one changes size or color, I would go see a doctor. Better to be safe than sorry on this one.
Reply:Yes, Skin Cancer can cause a bump on the skin. I recently had a bump on my head removed and discovered it was Skin Cancer. Make sure you make an appointment with your dermatologist. Your bump could be nothing, but it also could be something harmful. Have it checked out.
