Does skin cancer have to be on/to do with a mole?

So I have this spot on my skin, but it's not a mole, and I'm worried it's skin cancer. Is it?

Does skin cancer have to be on/to do with a mole?
The moles the kind that are dark and you can feel it when you touch them. If you have noticed any change in color or size. Best to see a dermatologist. Some people get skin cancer and it started with a mole.
Reply:No. It's doesn't have to have anything to do with a mole. My older sister used to lay out in the sun (in the 70s..everyone did) and she's had 4 small growths removed from her skin over the last 15 years--all cancerous. Thank God all in the early stages. None of them were ever moles.

****And don't send any pictures to anyone on here. You get yourself to a real doctor and get it checked--in person. Don't let anyone on here tell you it is or isn't cancer.
Reply:Send a picture then I can tell you...
Reply:You should see your doctor and have it checked out, better safe than sorry.

Reply:Mine was a depressed area red in color with a white crusty place. Moles are only one way to identify skin cancer...
Reply:Mole has to do with melanoma (skin cancer) and a lot!!! Mole cell structure is cripled and when too much sunbathing, it can cause an excessive growth of unwanted cells. By rubbing it you spread the area, where the mole grows. Careful surgery helps to prevent a mole to develop into a skin cancer. But a lame cut is a reason of getting melanoma...
