I have a birthmark, that is a flat mole, and the skin around it is purplish white...cancer?

I've had the birthmark since i was born but only recently I've had a purplish pigmentation around it. It's not real noticeable, I never thought much of it, but it seems to be getting worse really slowly. It's on my side, on my ribs, on my right side, and the mole is about half the size of a pea, and the area thats discolored around it is non symmetrical but looks to be about a fingers length long and two finger widths wide. It's been getting bigger I think, and I want to emphasize how unnoticeable it is. I'm pretty pale, I'm irish, german, and welsch, and it blends in with my veins and other things in my skin. It's not raised, it doesn't hurt. What should I do?

See a doctor. Any change in the appearance of a mole needs to be checked out by a dr. It could be nothing but it's better to safe than sorry.
Reply:Usually any moles we are born with are not a concern. It sounds to me like you may have bruised that area a bit and not been aware of it....if you're that concerned, by all means see a doctor.
Reply:Go to a dermatologist and have them check it out. I wish I caught my melanoma earlier so I wouldn't have to do treatments.
