Skin cancer, or just a mole?

I recently got a rather large 'mole' on the left side of my right knee. I say recent because it's only been there about 6 months I think, not too sure about it though. I read in a magazine that you should be worried if it isn't an oval shape, its a non-brown color, and/or it raises above the surface like a bump. Now this mole is kind of a pointy oval shape, sort of like a round diamondish shape, I'm pretty sure its a brown color, and it's not raised or bumpy, but it still looks suspicious and looks rough, but doesn't feel rough, what do guys think? (I'm going to my doctor in a couple days so don't bother reccomending my physician) thanks!

Skin cancer, or just a mole?
Moles that suddenly appear or grow larger are considered to be "suspicious". The general guidelines for melanoma are assymmetrical, irregular (scalloped, rough) border, multiple colors, diameter greater than that of a pencil eraser, and extreme or irregular elevation.

It's incredibly hard to diagnose melanoma (or another form of skin cancer) unless you're a dermatologist or an oncologist specializing in skin cancer. No one can give you a good diagnosis unless they've had an intense education in the field. Best of luck.
Reply:Wise choice
Reply:If you're going to the doctor, why did you ask us?
Reply:Without seeing the "mole", it's hard to tell. But I think it is a great idea that you are seeing a doctor.

Good Luck!
Reply:All moles that don't look quite right should be checked out. Even moles that seem ok to our untrained eyes can be very serious, so I think you are doing the right thing by seeing the GP. You should have him/her check your whole body at that appointment, and you should have a whole body check for moles every two years, and more often if you have suspicious moles. Make sure the doc checks soles of your feet and in your hair, as these are common places for melanomas to form (don't know why).
Reply:a skin cancer is different from a mole. but a mole it is a big mole already it can become cancer already.
Reply:sorry but that's your best answer, show it to your doctor
Reply:Without seeing it, I can't tell but i had my mole removed cause I doubted it.If you have doubts that it is something than mole then have it removed.
